DECKER: Five Questions for Jon Huntsman
Jon Huntsman Jr. is a candidate for the Republican nomination for
president. He has a rare combination of domestic and foreign-policy
experience as well as work as a business executive. A two-term
governor of Utah, Mr. Huntsman was re-elected in 2008 with a record
77.7 percent of the vote.

REILLY: Unholy abortion compromise
Amid much Christian angst over Obama administration regulations
requiring health insurance cover- age for sterilization and
contraceptives - including some that cause abortion - two prominent
Catholic organizations, the University of Notre Dame and the Catholic
Health Association, have proposed a compromise.
EDITORIAL: Biden's Taliban buddies
Vice President Joe Biden said the Taliban are not our enemy. If so, it
makes one wonder what all the killing is about.
GREEN: Obama's brass ring
Michelle Obama left Saturday for the start of the first family's
Hawaiian Christmas. President Obama stayed behind, supposedly to
underscore the importance of Congress passing the payroll-tax
extension - though some journalists noticed his announcement came
awfully close to Mitt Romney's criticism of his planned golf holiday.
MILLER: Senate's silent night
Silent Hill. Harry's left. All is dark - Senate side. The House voted
simultaneously on Tuesday to disagree with the Senate two-month
extension legislation for the payroll-tax holiday and send both
chambers' versions to a conference committee to negotiate a final
deal.
LAMBRO: Reid's legislative trap
Once again, Congress is playing high-stakes poker with a precarious
economy and the lives of struggling Americans who live paycheck to
paycheck - that is, if they're lucky enough to have a job.
MANN: Tardy thanks for Christopher Hitchens
It's hard to say anything about Christopher Hitchens that hasn't been
said already, but it's even harder to say nothing. Hitchens died last
week, a year-and-a-half after he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer.
He and I were not lifelong friends or family members, but I got to
know him fairly well. We met nearly seven years ago, and it's safe to
say that, during this time, Hitchens mattered more to me than I did to
him.
BIRMAN: Beware Washington's benevolence
One of the most haunting impressions of my Soviet childhood came from
stories my grandparents told about the Black Raven. As a small boy, I
was terrified of this polished and poised creature of the night,
usually sighted as it crouched to swoop upon an unsuspecting victim
and carry him away, never to be seen again.
GOLDBERG: Ron Paul's naive promises
So now it's Ron Paul's turn. The diminutive Texas libertarian is
poised in the latest polls to win the Iowa caucuses.
CHANG: High stakes in the Taiwanese elections
On Jan. 14, Taiwanese voters will elect the country's next president
and parliament. Officials in both Beijing and Washington are closely
watching the election campaign, for the outcome could affect both
Taiwan-China and U.S.-China relations.
MURRAY AND BIER: Create wealth, not jobs
Spending on construction and infrastructure jobs is a perennial
favorite of government stimulus boosters. "There's no reason for
Republicans in Congress to stand in the way of more construction
projects," President Obama told an Ohio crowd in September. "There's
no reason to stand in the way of more jobs." However, the president
now wants to block a massive private-sector construction project that
would create the thousands of jobs he demands - the Keystone XL
pipeline.
GROTH: Congress plays charades with insider trading
Congress' approval rating hit another historic low when a recent
Gallup poll found 76 percent of registered voters think congressional
incumbents don't deserve re-election. That's the highest percentage in
the 19 years Gallup has asked the question.
